Short Game Practice
Sand Play / Greenside Bunker
Most people fear the sand shot, but in reality it is not
a hard shot. Set up and follow through are the most important components in
the sand. First, open your stance (hips facing more to target), then place
the ball opposite the heel of your target foot, finally, set your balance
over your target foot (imagine a wall along your side and let your body
lightly rest against it). Your eyes should be focused about 1” behind the
ball because you will be hitting the sand, not the ball. The amount of sand
you take from underneath the ball will determine the distance the ball
flies. If the butt end (top of the grip) of the club faces toward the target
at the finish and you maintain your balance, on the target side, the ball
will fly up and land softly. Pose and enjoy!
P.S. Remember the sand bunker is a hazard and you can not ground your club
(touch the sand) at address.
